It houses all of the inmates that are arrested not only by the police department but also those of the sheriff’s office, federal inmates, and those arrested by other law enforcement officials. The facility is staffed with a revolving staff of sixteen stff and corrections officers.
The detention center provides three meals each day that are nutritionally balanced, a safe and secure environment for the rehabilitation of inmates, drug and alcohol addictions treatments, anger management, and other courses and programs that provide educational and vocational training.
Each offers an advantage to inmates both while they remain incarcerated as well as after they are released. During downtime there is access to television, outdoor recreation, telephones for making outgoing phone calls, and commissary to purchase additional clothing, hygiene, and food items. While incarcerated inmates are encouraged to have visits and to call their friends and family. By maintaining these connections, detention centers have found improved interactions among inmates, lower stress in the facility, and that inmates have lower anxiety levels.
Visits are provided on both Sundays, from 1pm to 2pm, and Wednesdays from 7pm until 8pm, with a requirement to be booked at least 24 hours in advance.
The Los Alamos Detention Center only accepts cash for an inmate's commissary. You can either mail it, which is not very secure, or you can drop it off at the jail. Never send checks or money orders.
