Inmates in the facility are offenders arrested in Chaves County that have recently been arrested for a felony or misdemeanor, are awaiting trial, or have been found guilty for their crime(s) and have been sentenced to one year or less.
Offender supervision includes community services, electronic monitoring, misdemeanor compliance, and other alternatives to detention.
Within Chaves County Detention Center there has been a move to video visitation, which allows friends or family who live within the USA to have online visits with inmates, as well as in person visits on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays from 8:30am to 11:00am, or 1:00pm until 3:00pm. Visits are not only helpful to the family, so they can see their incarcerated loved ones, but also to the inmates as they can remain connected to and up to date on the happenings with their family or friends, but also benefits the facility as inmates are often less tense and have lower anxiety levels, which leads to a safer and calmer facility.
Phones can be found in housing units to allow inmates to make outgoing calls to their friends and family, from after breakfast until before lockdown for the night. Phone services are offered by the same vendor as the visitations.
