About the Toms River Municipal Jail
Toms River Police have a small holding facility that allows them to meet the needs of the new arrests within the area, up to 12 adults and 3 juvenile offenders. Booking officers are fully trained in the advanced Live Scan technology that is a key part of booking each new arrest and supplying fingerprinting services to the community. The booking officers are also those responsible for observing the inmates, ensuring the safety of the facility and the surrounding community. Meals are provided, as well as bedding and clothing to be worn during incarceration, however, this small holding location does not house long term inmates and all of those who remain in the facility are shortly transferred to larger detention centers where they are better prepared for long term stays and higher security requirements. As a short term facility there is no commissary provided, phone calls are permitted during the daytime hours and are made collect to the person receiving the call, and visits are arranged only through direct request to staff. No set visiting hours or phone call access is provided due to the rate at which detainees are released on bail or transferred to more long term locations.
