About the Middlesex County Correction Center
New Brunswick, Middlesex, has a long history of progressing and leading the way in the jails that they built. The unified Department of Corrections was created in 1978, and the new Adult Corrections Center opened shortly after, in 1984. The facility uses the direct supervision method which has officers directly within the housing units and in direct contact with the inmates. The sprawling building has several housing units and meets the needs of more than one security level, allowing for each inmate to have their specific needs met. Within the facility the staff focus on integrity, safety, security, efficiency, and preparedness. Each law enforcement officer wears a body camera which holds both the staff and the inmates responsible for their own actions, and helps to improve the sense of safety within the location. Phone calls are provided by gtl.net, and an account can be created to allow friends and family to receive calls from an inmate while they are incarcerated, but they will be unable to call the inmate directly. Visits are also provided to help inmates to stay in contact with their loved ones, and these must be planned ahead to ensure that the inmate will be available at the correct time. Visiting hours are posted on the website and video visits are available Wednesday and Friday from 12:30 pm to 3:15 pm and again from 5pm to 7:20pm, while Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday the hours are 8am to 10:30am and 12pm to 2:30pm. Two visits are permitted for each inmate each week, and the hours are for all inmates with no restriction based on housing or last names. Visits are 15 minutes or longer, and video visitation is available within the lobby of the jail for those who are unable to visit from home, and on video from a remote location for those who are unable to attend the jail.
