About the Trenton City Jail
This minimum security facility is located inside the Trenton Police Station. It is operated by the local police and holds their detainees until they are booked, charged, and assessed to determine if they will remain at the facility or be transferred directly to the county jail. With space for under 20 inmates, it does not function as a long term detention center and most inmates are waiting to determine what their bail, waiting for that bail to be paid, or are waiting to be transferred to another facility. Inmates do not remain at this facility for over a year, and most will not stay longer than a few days. Only adults are held here, with juveniles going to the facility that is intended for youth offenders, and male and female inmates remain separated throughout their experience. Phone calls can be made by inmates during their daytime hours of 7:30am and 7pm. Each call recipient must be listed on their approved call list and they must be available to accept the call. Incoming phone calls cannot be received by inmates, and they are not permitted to contact inmates at other facilities or those who are involved in their current case. Visiting lists are also created and all visitors must be preapproved by the staff before any visit may be scheduled. All visits will occur during the day, not beginning before 9am and not extending past 6pm, with no children under the age of 16 being permitted to visit at this specific facility.
