Atlantic County Youth Detention - Harborfields Information

Accepting youth who are between the ages of 12 and 18, both male and female, the Atlantic County Youth Detention Center has 19 beds for males and 8 for females. It is a secure facility that accommodates youth who have been arrested and are waiting for a court date and is a short term holding solution only. Programs are focused on education and rehabilitation and offer many opportunities for learning and growth during any length of stay. Through the use of structure and a strict schedule, one of the goals of the facility is to provide a stable environment and provide the opportunity to gain structure that may continue after they have been released. Along with the basic services of security, meals, and laundry, there are several primary services offered to improve the future of each resident. Counselling is conducted onsite, academics are supported through weekday classes that are mandatory, drug and alcohol counseling is provided, recreation and athletics are taught by the PE teacher through the local school board, and both sex education and parenting classes are provided. Events are planned to ensure community involvement, and for those who qualify there is also a home detention program that permit 10 youth to serve their sentence at home. Visitation: Visitors are permitted each week, with prior residents not being able to visit, and no one under 15 is approved to visit unless they are the child of a resident.
