About the Belknap County House of Corrections

Within Belknap County the incarceration facility is the 110-bed Belknap County House of Corrections, also known as the Belknap County Jail, where all inmates regardless of the seriousness of charges remain both before trial and after sentencing. There is a full range of services that include basic needs but also programs for reentry, education, pretrial services, phones, visits, and commissary. It is the goal of the facility and staff that each inmate who leaves Belknap County House of Corrections does so a little better than when they entered.

Inmates are offenders arrested in Belknap County that have recently been arrested for a felony or misdemeanor, are awaiting trial, or have been found guilty for their crime(s) and have been sentenced to one year or less.

Belknap County also maintains a 72-bed Community Corrections Center on the same campus.

Pretrial services include weekly check-ins for those who are not incarcerated while they await trial, as well as electronic monitoring for those who are serving their sentence or waiting for their trial from home.

Educational opportunities include the ability to gain and practice new life skills, vocational skills, and social skills, along with the provision of support after their incarceration to support reentry and reintegration into the community.

To ensure that inmates are able to remain in contact with their family and friends they are able to accept mail that has no contraband, includes a return address, and is sent through the post office to:

They will also have access to phones to make collect calls between 7:00am and 9:00pm each day, with calls being 10 minutes in length but no restriction on how many calls they can make. To receive calls from inmates an account can be created online.

Visits are video based and can be 20 minutes long, scheduled and engaged in onsite at the kiosk for free or remotely for $5 for a 20 minute visit. These are scheduled between 9am and 9[m Monday through Thursday and may be anytime 9am to 7pm Friday through Sunday. The program for visits is found online.
