The Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center is a combined facility that also houses the Wittenberg Hall detention facility. This facility houses up to 108 young offenders and ensures that their needs are met during any length of detention. Washoe County School District provides educational programming for the residents and has licensed teachers onsite. There is also a foster grandparent program, art programs, NA and AA, yoga, competency development, substance abuse education, basic health and hygiene, and religious services. Youth are able to select which of the additional programming they attend but school classes are required, and they must attend all classes and complete their work. Mental health support offers counseling and therapy for any mental health concerns, and this allows them to gain new coping skills and prepare for their future outside of the facility. Three meals and two snacks are provided each day, and they are designed to be balanced and healthy. All medical conditions, allergies, and religious dietary needs are tracked and respected in all meals. Mail is handed out each weekday and will be checked for contraband before delivery to the juvenile. Time is provided for letter writing. Books
The Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center standards will be disposed of.
