The Platte County Detention Center maintains an average of 144 offenders in custody on any given day. The Platte County Detention Center has a monthly turnover of 40% of their inmate population, another 30% turnover every 90 days, another 20% every six months, and approximately 10% stay incarcerated between six and twelve months. Every year Platte County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 2,880 offenders.

Completed in 2003, the Platte County Detention Center can house up to 144 offenders, both on misdemeanor and felony charges, as they await their trial or serve their sentence which is most often under one year.
The old jail, with a capacity of 27 offenders, remains active at the courthouse and is used as a temporary holding location for those who have been sentenced as they wait to be transported back, or as they wait for their appointed time on their court date.

Full services are provided at the new location, which welcomes visitors with a large glass lobby and stretches long and low to maintain all of the housing units, medical area, laundry, kitchen, and other key facilities.
The work release program allows inmates who qualify to leave the campus during their work shifts for their current job and return at the end of the shift to continue serving their sentence. Along with the necessary services for mental health, physical health, and skills to create success after incarceration, there are programs to encourage contact with friends and family who are not incarcerated to help maintain the mental health of inmates which creates a safer environment for everyone.
This contact is maintained through mail, phone calls, and visits, and for additional support they are able to add money to the account of an inmate which will support commissary and other purchase.
Bond may also be paid online for those who are unable to reach the building, and this can allow qualified offenders to be released as they await their trial.
