About the Gage County Detention Center

With few windows, outdoor fenced areas, and delivery areas, the Gage County Detention Center is located in town and is easily accessible. There is limited parking that is not designated for law enforcement vehicles, but visitors may find parking in the area. The building was completed in 1977 and was then created to house up to 31 inmates with 4 of the beds assigned for female inmates and 2 for juveniles, while the remaining 25 were for male inmates.

An online database is maintained including new and current inmates with their charges and bail amount, recently released inmates, and other details. As some will be housed in nearby counties, this tool is key in locating loved ones who may be incarcerated, and for further questions and concerns the staff are available by calling 402-223-5221.

Once the assessment has been completed and booking is done, each inmate will be assigned a bed for their housing assignment, receive any immediate care needed, have an account created for their commissary, and they will have a bail amount set. Bail can now be paid online at any time.

While inmates will receive meals, laundry, activities, social and life skills development, educational opportunities, they will still benefit from support by their friends and family who are not incarcerated. Family members and close friends are able to offer support through money deposited to the commissary account for hygiene, clothing, snacks, and other purchases or through writing letters to the inmate at the jail, accept incoming calls from them, or by visiting.

Commissary money may also be used to purchase phone time and this allows inmates to make outgoing calls.

All visits are held Monday through Sunday 1:00pm-8:00pm and is first come first served with no scheduled visits needed. Two hours of visits are approved for each of the inmates every week, and no one under 18 may visit without an adult.
