About the St. Louis City Justice Center

In the city center of St Louis, Missouri, stands the St. Louis City Justice Center that opened in 2002. It stands 6 stories high and is a large concrete block with large windows creating an open feel to the front of the building, and cell blocks behind. It houses all detainees who are arrested in the city, and after a stop at the local police station to complete reports and provide their details, all are transferred to this location both to await their trial and to serve any sentence they are given.

Several programs are in place to support inmates in self improvement and development, educational goals, and learning new skills. Programs include a mini law school, GED classes, leadership, understanding the world, healthy relationships, career development, life skills, substance abuse, occupational therapy training, ministries and religious programming, and a dual diagnosis program. Working with dual diagnosis means that all medical care is provided as well as addressing mental health needs, and treating the entire person with rehabilitative treatments and support to provide the best possible results.

Family are able to support inmates by funding their commissary account, funding their telephone account, and through visiting on the provided visiting days. 

Mail: Incoming mail is unlimited though it must be free of contraband, contain no adult content, and be in a plain white envelope with the correct address and return address.

First, call 314-621-5848 to find out what location your inmate is in.

  • Only pre-approved adults, and children with adults that have been approved can visit an inmate.
    • The Visitation Hours are Monday to Sunday, from 9:00AM to 9:00PM.
      DAYS TIMES
      MONDAY thru SUNDAY 9:00AM - 9:00PM
  • Visits are one hour long.
  • Inmates must schedule your visits two days in advance of the vist.
  • You must arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled visit.

There is a very involved process you must go through before you are approved to visit an inmate.
Here are the steps:

  • Before you visit an inmate you must get authorization.

  • Each inmate receives five (5) Visitor Request Forms during orientation, and those forms are mailed by the inmate to the five people they choose.

  • A 'chosen' visitor must complete the form and mail it to the City Justice Center at the following address:

  • Then... a Criminal History Record Check is performed on the person submitting the Visitor Request Form.

  • The person completing the form is only approved to visit if all of the following applies:  
    - No active warrants
    - Not recently released from a jail or prison within the past 6 months.
    - Not on probation or parole.
    - If you are, you must have a handwritten approval letter from your Parole Officer.

  • All forms are maintained by the Case Workers
    Call the Case Worker to ensure you are approved
    At the Justice Center, call 314-621-5848; give the operator the inmate's name and they will locate and transfer you to the correct Case Worker
    At the Medium Security Jail, call 314-389-4790; give the operator the inmate's name and they will locate and transfer you to the correct Case Worker

  • If you have been incarcerated within the past year contact the Deputy Superintendent to ensure you are approved:

When you do finally visit:

  • Don't bring anything with you. No cell phones, no purses, etc.
  • Don't try and give anything to the inmate.
  • Arrive 15 minutes early. If you are late, your visit will be cancelled.
  • Dress appropriately... as if you were meeting someone's grandmother for the first time.
