Housing assignments are determined by age, gender, charges that are faced, and a history of behavior when in detention at other times. Within this secure facility, each of the residents is expected to follow the strict routine and schedule that is provided, and includes time for hygiene and personal care, school on each weekday, meals, phone calls, recreation time, programming, counseling, medical or dental care, and other learning opportunities. They are responsible for keeping their personal space clean and may have daily chores. The local schoolboard is responsible for the academic portion of the schedule and licensed teachers will follow the local curriculum to keep students education ongoing, as well as assisting those who may have fallen behind or who need adaptations to their learning plan. Life skills such as goal setting, financial management, parenting, scheduling, job searches, and more may be developed through additional learning opportunities. Mail may be checked for contraband before it is delivered.
