With a capacity of over 100 juveniles at one time, the Johnson County Juvenile Center houses juveniles who have been arrested on charges of delinquency. They will be arrested and charged for acts that would result in legal charges for adults from misdemeanors to felonies. Youth are held for detention hearing if they are not expected to return for their court date if they are allowed to leave, if they have been assigned detention in their adjudication, or they are waiting for transfer to an alternative housing facility. Several programs are provided during any length of detention to address life skills, to develop social skills, to teach decision making and goal setting, and to provide necessary knowledge and skill sets for their future. School is attended onsite each day to maintain educational standards. Recreational activities are organized each week, with activities occurring most days of the week, and they may be individual or group activities. Counseling and other mental health support is also provided, along with medical care and dental care. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Johnson County Juvenile Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
