The Rankin County Sheriff’s Juvenile Detention Center houses juveniles who are arrested and charged within the area for a short period of time. Staff focus on creating a safe and secure environment that is positive and supporting change rather than punitive. Programs are active within the facility that provide life skills, social skills, physical education, and academics. Youth are encouraged to interact in positive ways and to help maintain a positive environment. Basic needs are all cared for, including meals that are balanced and nutritious, school that follows the local public schools, laundry for clean bedding, towels, and clothing, along with medical care and dental care, and mental health care is available as needed. Juveniles are encouraged to take responsibility for their actions and decisions, to be accountable to themselves and others, discipline to stay on the schedule that is provided and adhered too, and how to make positive choices in the future. Mail: Any mail that is received will only be accepted through the postal service with a full return address and the name of the sender, and it must be letter or postcard only. Phones: Phone calls are permitted to be made to parents, guardians, or grandparents only. Visitation: Each juvenile is permitted one 30 minute visit each day with visiting hours occurring on Tuesday and Friday 5:30pm-6:45pm, Saturday 8:30am-12pm and 5:30pm-6:35pm, as well as Sunday 5:30pm-6:45pm. Parents, guardians, and grandparents are the only visitors permitted.
