It is a short term housing solution that offers a safe and secure environment for those who are newly arrested and waiting for their court date, who are awaiting adjudication, or who are determined to be a danger to themselves or others or waiting for a transfer to another housing alternative. Along with caring for basic needs, such as security, safety, healthy meals and snacks, education, clean laundry, and recreation, the staff also provide increased mental health support, counseling, activities, physical education and exercise, library access, computers in classrooms, and medical and dental care. A whole life approach is taken to encourage the development of social skills and practice positive social interactions and decisions, learning new life skills, and engaging in their own personal development. When juveniles leave the facility, they will have additional tools to build their future, will have practiced positive interactions, and learn to make good decisions for themselves. The Kanabec County Juvenile Detention Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
