With a capacity of 40 beds, the Dakota County Juvenile Detention Services Center houses all juvenile offenders and those who require housing for their own safety or the safety of others. They are held until they are determined safe to release, serve any sentence they are assigned to, or have been determined to be innocent of the charges. They will receive full services and treatment during their stay, with housing being determined by their age, gender, history of detention, and past behavior. During their stay they will receive mental health services including therapy or counseling, medications they require, and encouragement to improve their decision making and social skills. Life skills are taught alongside academics, allowing for juveniles to leave the facility without falling behind in school and gaining experience and skills that will help them in the future. Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Dakota County Juvenile Detention allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Dakota County Juvenile Detention standards will be disposed of.
