About the Chisago County Jail

Using a podular design with remote monitoring from a central command station, the 176-bed Chisago County Jail houses all of the offenders arrested throughout Chisago County for either misdemeanors or felonies, both as they wait for their trial and as they serve the sentence provided by the court. The facility, finished in 2018, is 66,000 square feet and cost $24 million to build. It shares the building with the Chisago County Sheriff's office and Law Enforcement Center.

All inmates receive nutritious meals, medical care, and several programs including work release, volunteering, sentence to service, spiritual programs, support programs, mail, phone calls, visits, and other supports for both during incarceration and afterwards.

The Chisago County Jail provides work release only to those who are not charged with violent offenses and who qualify for and are sentenced to the program. A commissary program provides other needs and wants of inmates and can be funded by family and friends through the lobby kiosk or online.

... and this allows them to both read and write letters to their support system, though any contraband or banned items will not be permitted.

Phones are in use each day, and they can call, text, or make video calls from this system with an account created by their family. Through these video calls, inmates are able to have remote visits with their family or friends who are unable to attend the facility directly due to distance or other limitations. Though incoming calls are not accepted by the phones, a voicemail can be left at 651-237-3112.

To visit onsite the hours for minimum and medium security inmates are Sunday 8:00am-12:00pm, 7:00pm-10:00pm, Wednesday 7:00pm-10:00pm, and Friday 8:00am-12:00pm. Maximum security inmates have visits Sunday 8:00am-10:00am, 7:00pm-9:00pm, Wednesday 7:00pm-9:00pm, and Friday 8:00am-12:00pm. Visits are 20 minutes each, and visitors should arrive a few minutes early for their visit.

Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Chisago County Jail allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Chisago County Jail standards will be disposed of.
