Beltrami County Juvenile Center Information

Opening in 1973, the Beltrami County Juvenile Center is part of the Northwestern Minnesota Juvenile Center. It offers full services for juveniles and their families, and is located on the outskirts of Bemidji, Minnesota. Created on its’ own campus, it has three units within the building as well as additional community based satellite homes. The units consist of the secure detention which houses 16 juveniles between 10 and 18 years of age, nonsecure detention which houses 24 residents who are 10 to 18 years of age, residential treatment for 25 youth ages 12 to 18 who will be active in a program that is at least 4 months long, and satellite homes which provide a structured family home with therapeutic services. In the detention unit there are classrooms with computers, a day area, a gym, an outdoor recreation yard, and cells. Each stay begins with an assessment and assignment to the appropriate housing space, and they are provided with a safe and secure environment to serve their sentence or wait for a transfer. Classes follow those of the public school board and provide GED testing and diplomas.
