The facility is also known as the Ionia County Jail, and it accepts all of the offenders who are arrested in the county, both male and female, and provides a safe and secure location for their incarceration both before their trial and during their sentence.
Ionia County Correctional Center operates on the belief that offenders who are returned to their community having gained education, job skills, anger management skills, and having received treatment for substance abuse will have a better and more successful reintegration to their community. This is believed to improve not only their lives but to benefit the community as a whole.
Programs to work towards these goals include life skills programs, educational programs, jail diversion programs, community service programs, work programs, substance abuse counseling and treatment, and others. Work programs and community service allow inmates to fill their days of incarceration with meaningful tasks that will give back to the community and work programs allow them to continue earning an income to support their family. The skills gained and the added education will provide increased employment opportunities after incarceration.

Phones are also present in common areas of housing units; however, they are accessible only during the day around their work schedules and make outgoing calls. No incoming calls are accepted for inmates, though the front lobby may be contacted for questions regarding bail or visitation at 616-527-5390.
For visits, each visitor must be preapproved of and schedule their visit at least 25 hours but as long as 2 weeks in advance. Onsite visits and remote are offered, with two onsite visits being free each week, and unlimited remote visits are available for a few for each visit.
To visit an inmate, create an account online and select the inmate to visit then choose from their available hours. Visiting hours are Monday to Sunday 9am-11am, 2pm-5pm, and 8pm-10pm.
Once arrested, the person is taken to Ionia County Correctional Center for booking, a process that confirms identity, assesses charges, and determines if they will be released on their own recognizance, posted for bail, or held until court.

Understanding the rules completely are the responsibility of both you and your inmate. Not knowing the rules will NOT be accepted as an excuse if you make a mistake and violate them. Disobeying them could result in being banned from have future visits.
• Any inmate or visitor whose behavior is disruptive during a visit may have his/her visiting privileges suspended/terminated.
• All visits are subject to monitoring and recording.
• All visits must be scheduled 6 hours prior to the appointment or up to 13 days in advance.
• You must check-in 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visit.
• Valid picture identification (e.g., driver's license, State I.D., or Military I.D. with picture) is required of all visitors, with the exception of children under the age of 17.
• Visitors under the age of 17 must be accompanied and supervised by an authorized adult visitor.
• Visitors who 'arrive' after the scheduled start time may not be allowed to visit.
• Clothing must cover all private/sensitive body areas.
• The visitation schedule may be canceled or altered on holidays or for safety/security reasons.
• Ionia County Correctional Center can disconnect, deny, change, or cancel a visit at any time.
• Internet connectivity issues during offsite visits will NOT be refunded.
• Each visitation session will show a timer to display elapsed time.
• After your visit has ended your connection will be terminated automatically.
