Genesee Valley Regional Center Information

Housing juveniles who are between the ages of 10 and 17, the Genessee Valley Regional Juvenile Center houses both male and female juveniles. It is a short term location that houses juveniles only when they are waiting to be sentenced by the court or when they are being placed for a period of time after they are adjudicated. It provides a full staff, healthy meals, clothing and bedding, laundry services, cleaning staff are present each day, and teachers provide a full education. School classes occur during the week following the school hours of the loca public schools, using their curriculum, and parents may drop off and pick up homework for the duration of the detention. Medical and dental care are provided, along with counseling, therapy, and in cases where it is key to family reunification family therapy is offered. Meals follow the guidelines for school lunch programs and extend to all three meals of the day as well as snacks. Only parents, guardians, and grandparents are permitted to accept phone calls from the center or visit the youth during their detention. It may be opened in the presence of a staff member or checked for contraband and content before final delivery. Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Genesee Valley Regional Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Genesee Valley Regional Center standards will be disposed of.
