Berrien County Juvenile Center Information

With 42 beds to hold juveniles, the Berrien County Juvenile Center houses youth who are either waiting for adjudication or who have been assigned to the detention center by the court. Crisis intervention, medical assessment and treatment is provided, mental health assessments and care are provided, and they will also be provided with healthy meals, clean clothing and bedding, laundry services, and all other basic care. Staff will work to help the residents to improve their self-esteem, discipline, improve their physical health, encourage social interactions and development, as well as improving their skills, learning new skills, and become competent in new skills. Both the needs of the juvenile themselves and those of the family as a whole are addressed, ensuring there will be improved success after they have completed the program and returned home. The 42 beds are separated into 16 for secure detention, 8 for alternative detention, and 18 for residential treatment and family services. Transportation is provided to court dates or medical appointments, and all youth will be given their prescription medications as required. Phone: Juveniles will be provided withy approved times to make phone calls based upon their schedule, and staff must dial the number of the parent or guardian they are calling, no others may accept calls from them. Each juvenile receives time fo rone call each day, with the behavior level system allowing them to earn additional phoen time. Visitation: In person visits are 45 minutes long on Sundays between 3pm and 5pm, with zoom visits being Tuesdays between 6 and 7pm, or Thursdays 3:30-5pm and will be 20 minutes, by appointment. Visits are scheduled by emailing the facility.
