Essex County has two jails that operate under the Sheriff’s Department, Essex County Pre-Release & Re-Entry and the Middleton House iof Correction.

This facility provides the housing for all inmates who are nearing the end of the sentence and preparing for return to their community, and those who do not have a serious record and faced lower charges.
