About the Talbot County Detention Center

Operating since 1992 and housing all of the local offenders in Talbot County for both felony and misdemeanors, Talbot County Detention Center inmates are able to spend their entire incarceration here from arrest to the end of their sentence. This location, with a rated capacity of 148 beds, also provides alternatives to incarceration and operates programs to help inmates prepare to return to their community after their incarceration ends.

All offenders, both male and female, for the entire county are processed through this center after their arrest with an average of around 80 inmates each day over the three stories that include 9 pod housing units that span 2 floors, recreation areas, full kitchen, laundry, and libraries, the booking and processing, lobby, visitation space, security stations and entries, a medical area, and other key sections. Staff are available to answer questions and concerns on programs and inmates by phone by calling 410-770-8120, and a roster is maintained online for status updates on inmates of concern for everyone to access.

Upon arrival and assessment is completed to determine housing assignment, medical care, and mental health supports, along with what other programs will be able to best support the inmate’s reentry to their community.

Upon intake, the booking process is completed, which includes a medical screening, fingerprinting and mugshots, DNA sample, along with an assessment to determine security needs, medical needs, mental health requirements, and housing assignment.

Staff is available to transport all inmates to court dates and any medical appointments or emergency needs, as well as inspecting all mail for contraband, receiving commissary funds and other money for inmates, maintaining the safety of the community and the security of the facility, and other tasks.
