Each cell is marked with a window, whether it is a single occupancy or a single for the higher security rating cells. Both pretrial offenders who are unable to make, or do not qualify for bail, and those sentenced by the court, will be housed at the Somerset County Detention Center after being arrested for either a misdemeanor or a felony by any law enforcement operating in Somerset County.
The 12 acre, maximum-security facility responsible for protecting the citizens of Somerset County by providing a safe, secure, and humane place of detention.

It is ensured that medical care is provided for all inmates, as well as mental health care, healthy meals three times every day, clean laundry and bedding, and access to recreational time and activities.

Any additional items must be purchased through the commissary program, which is funded by family members and friends who are not incarcerated through the kiosk in the lobby or online.
Inmates are also able to both send and receive mail on weekdays, with all mail being sent though the Postal Service and needing a full return address to be accepted. There may not be extra pages, cards, pictures larger than 5x7 or with adult content, and all mail will be opened and inspected for contraband.

Phones are found in the dayrooms and are turned on from 8:30am until 11pm every day. In order to add money to their account there is a pamphlet in the lobby on how to create an account and add money.
Visits occur throughout the week, and one 20 minute visit is permitted for male inmates each visiting day, and female inmates may be 30 minute visits, both with a maximum of 3 visitors. Any visitor must be first included on the inmate visiting list, and approved, and visits are unavailable on holidays. Male inmates have visits on Monday 1pm-3pm, Tuesday and Thursday 9am-11am and 1pm-3pm, and Wednesday 9am-11am. Female inmates have visiting hours on Monday 9am-11am, Wednesday 1pm-3pm, and Friday 9am-11am.
Once arrested, the person is taken to Somerset County Detention Center for booking, a process that confirms identity, assesses charges, and determines if they will be released on their own recognizance, posted for bail, or held until court.

Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

The Somerset County Detention Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
