Jetson Correctional Center for Youth Information

The discussion to reopen the Jetson Correctional Center for Youth has been controversial, with the discussion beginning in 2022 due to security issues at nearby facilities, though the building was originally closed in 2014 based upon some safety concerns with the building itself. It has a top capacity of 80 juveniles, and houses both male and female juveniles who are waiting for their court date, waiting for adjudication, or serving a sentence that was handed out by the court. It offers all services that cover basic needs for the juveniles, including their meals that are balanced, laundry, and cleaning to maintain the facility. Education is one of the main focuses, including not only academics, but also social skills and life skills including personal budget, job searches, social skills, and physical education. Medical care and mental health are also key concerns, and they are provided care by licensed professionals that attend the facility. Recreational time is provided and there is space for both group and indidvidual activities, including reading, writing letters, games, and sports. Mail: 15200 Scenic Highway, Baton Rouge, LA, 70874 Phones: Phones within the dayrooms and common areas allow juveniles to call their parents or guardians and update on their experience, as well as maintain the support from their family during their detention. Visitation: Visitation is provided for immediate family members one day each week and is planned and scheduled based upon the housing unit assignment.
