This jail is not operated by the sheriff’s department but rather by the Union Parish Police Jury and operations are monitored and overseen by the jail commission.
It is through this commission that an inmate may be located by calling 318-368-9827 and they will provide the housing, address, facility name, and release date, or the online access may be used as well. Both those who are arrested and charged with a misdemeanor and those facing felony charges are detained at this detention center through their trial and their sentence.
Bond can be paid after contacting the UPDC at 318-368-9827 to inquire the amount and location, and it may be paid onsite in cash or through a bail bond service.
The Union Parish Detention Center also operates both reentry programs that support inmates in finding employment, housing, and other necessities when they are released, and a transitional work program that works with local businesses to find work for inmates, as well as to offer work before they are released so they are able to have a better chance at successful reentry. Full medical care and all necessary mental health care, including addictions treatment, are provided during any length of incarceration as well as laundry services, meals focused on nutritional value and taste, access to both time and space for recreational and social activities, and other needs.
For additional supplies and comfort items, family and friends may purchase items through the commissary to be delivered to the inmate directly through, and they are also able to supply money for their account through a money order in the mail, online, or a kiosk that can be found in the jail lobby.
Access to phones is also provided, and they are located in cell blocks or housing units, with inmates being able to have a list of 20 numbers they are able to call each day, with no incoming calls or access to numbers not included on their approved list. Each call is 15 minutes and no one who is incarcerated at any facility may call someone in another facility. Calls will be made collect or through a prepaid account that can be created and funded online.
Emails and other digital communication is also provided through the use of kiosks and tablets with an online account. Any visitors must first be included on the visitor list that the inmate provides and is approved, and they will be given access to the visiting days and times for the inmate they will be visiting.
