About the Tensas Parish Detention Center

This correctional facility in Tensas Parish, Louisiana, serves as a prison and pretrial detention center for inmates sentenced in Waterproof and Tensas County courts, as well as other cities in the area. It has also been used to detain undocumented immigrants under the custodial authority of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The facility has a capacity of 512 inmates.

In 2020, employees raised concerns about "unsafe working conditions" due to a high number of COVID-19 cases among inmates. Staff members described being overworked, underpaid, and understaffed. Complaints were also made about insufficient ventilation and lack of air conditioning in the facility.

Tensas Parish is located in the northeastern part of Louisiana, with its eastern border along the Mississippi River. According to the 2020 census, the population of the parish was 4,147.

Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Tensas Parish Detention Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
