Bridge City Correctional Center for Youth Information

Originally built as a convent, the Bridge City Correctional Center for Youth has housed female juveniles, both orphaned and those assigned there by the court, and male juvenile offenders who are being held on a warrant or under order of the court. It sits on 30 acres and the campus is made up of housing units, recreation space, classrooms, a library, and spaces for meal prep, medical care, laundry, mental health care, and group activities, day rooms, and other useful spaces. Recent breakouts led to a program that saw the most violent moved to a temporary location while security issues were addressed, though it is not a high security facility it is intended to be secure and safe for the community, the juveniles, and the staff. While it is a secure facility it is intended to maintain a positive environment that encourages positive social interactions, learning new skills and rehabilitation including substance abuse treatments and others. With the focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment, it is not designed as an adult jail, but has been adapted from the convent design to offer a location that is more similar to a home or school environment.
