About the Lafayette Parish Work Release

Participating Lafayette Parish inmates are housed in an old motel at 410 West Vermillion Street. Sheriff’s deputies ferry them to and from their jobs in unmarked vans. All the inmates in the work-release program, male and female, are coming to the end of their sentences. The inmates blend in with other workers; they are not made to wear the recognizable black and white-striped prison garb that the Lafayette Parish inmates wear when they work on road cleanup crews. The kitchens of many restaurants in Lafayette are staffed with Lafayette Parish inmates. In order to qualify for the work release inmates must have at most three months left on their sentence and good behavior record in jail. Inmates must apply and be interviewed by work-release program staff. They pay for room and board at the parish complex. And, if required, every paycheck pays a percentage of an inmate’s court-ordered restitution, court costs and child support.

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Lafayette Parish Work Release?

There are four options for putting money on an inmate's books:

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment (if it's a money order) or you will use a self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.
Money is accepted for commissary at the Bonding/Traffic Fine Section of the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center between the hours of 8AM and 3PM Monday through Friday.

Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Lafayette Parish Work Release and others often use a private company to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
