The Lafayette Parish Juvenile Detention houses juveniles who are located around the parish, from all of the cities and towns that are located within the region. It offers safety, security, treatment, rehabilitation, and support to all of the youth who are arrested for delinquent acts, on outstanding warrants, or breaking probation or release rules, among other reasons. It is a state licensed facility that falls under the regulation and operation of the Lafayette Consolidated Government. Within the facility there are housing pods, dayrooms, recreational space, classes and a library, and access to computers as needed for school and educational purposes. Along with a medical area, there are separate housing spaces, recreational spaces, and treatment areas along with the regular dayroom and dining areas. While housed here families are encouraged to visit the youth and to accept their calls, as this contact is a key part of the success of each of the individual youth and the programs overall. All necessary prescriptions can be dropped off a the facility and they will be provided each day as prescribed by the medical staff, and all assessment results will be shared with parents or guardians, along with assistance to obtain the needed services or treatments outside of the facility for ongoing care.
