About the Jefferson Davis Parish Jail

The construction of the Jefferson Davis Parish Consolidated Jail was completed in 2019 at 1704 Hwy. 90 West (Shankland Ave.) in Jennings, Louisiana. This new facility can accommodate 200 inmates, replacing the previous jail built in 1964 that held only 62 inmates.

The new facility features holding and isolation cells, a booking area, medical office with an exam room, a central command center, a kitchen, and separate recreation yards for male and female inmates. The decision to construct the new facility was based on a 2012 feasibility study, which determined that the existing jail was undersized, outdated, consistently overcrowded, and in need of expensive repairs and security upgrades. The facility is owned by the Police Jury, with operations overseen by the sheriff's office.

The Jefferson Davis Parish Jail is responsible for the housing and care of those who are accused or convicted of committing a misdemeanor or felony in Jefferson Davis Parish as they wait for their trial or as they serve their sentence, usually less than one year.

It serves many law enforcement organizations including the Sheriff’s Department, local police, Immigration, and other surrounding parishes as needed.

If you have questions regarding an inmate or the programs and services provided, the staff can be reached at 318-746-1114, and an online listing of all the detainees is published for your own investigation.

Upon intake, the booking process is completed, which includes a medical screening, fingerprinting and mugshots, DNA sample, along with an assessment to determine security needs, medical needs, mental health requirements, and housing assignment.

Staff is available to transport all inmates to court dates and any medical appointments or emergency needs, as well as inspecting all mail for contraband, receiving commissary funds and other money for inmates, maintaining the safety of the community and the security of the facility, and other tasks.

The Jefferson Davis Parish Jail also provides several other services to inmates including basic needs in meals, laundry, and hygiene items, and programs including AA, counseling, religious programs, education, recreation, and opportunities to grow social and life skills.

For inmate commissary, orders can be placed every Wednesday before noon, and items will be received the following business day. To add money to an inmate's books, you can visit the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's Office Dispatch Lobby and use the Commissary Kiosk, or set it online. Additional fees may apply. Alternatively, you can order commissary items online and have them directly shipped directly to the inmate.

Inmates are allowed to receive mail, which is screened before distribution on weekdays. Address the envelope as follows:

Inmate's Full Name & CTC Pin #
Jefferson Davis Parish Jail
4506 Marlena Street
Unit 23
Bossier City, LA 71111

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Jefferson Davis Parish Jail?

There are three choices for putting money on an inmate's books:

Choice 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail

Bring money to the jail in person.

Jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment.

Jefferson Davis Parish Jail has a Tiger Kiosk in the Lobby that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.

If you can't get your questions answered online call the Jefferson Davis Parish Jail at 318-746-1114.

Choice 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online

Jefferson Davis Parish Jail and others often use a private company to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Go to the online site for depositing funds. You will need to register an account, which is free to do and use a debit/credit card for the deposits.

Choice 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail

Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union.

Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.

Call Jefferson Davis Parish Jail at 318-746-1114 to confirm the address to send the money order to and how they want it made out.

Failure to do this properly will delay your inmate getting his account credited and may require you to have to resubmit a second money order.

Call 318-746-1114 to ask facility personnel who to make the money order out to, and where to send it.
