Calcasieu Parish Juvenile Detention Center Information

This large facility is updated and modern, offering 50,000 square feet of space and holding 38 spaces for juveniles. Along with the main building that contains the housing units, there are meeting rooms, counseling areas, multipurpose space, a medical clinic, dayroom, dining area, educational and vocational training spaces, and a large yard space for recreational purposes. Within the facility and the overall juvenile justice department, the focus is on helping juveniles and their families, providing supportive and rehabilitative services, and work towards offering treatments, support, and education supports to keep families together and show youth a positive path. Before considering detention there are diversion programs in place to prevent detention of as many juveniles as possible, and once they are being detained the focus remains on improving social skills, positive decision making, anger management and counseling supports, and learning new skills and abilities. Physical education is provided both indoors and out, with a range of activities and programs to encourage engagement and participation. In the alternatives to detention program home detention and shelter care are both provided out of the facility, allowing juveniles to be supervised without being at the facility around the clock.
