About the Jessamine County Detention Center

Standing proudly in red brick only a few stories high, with the telltale small, slotted windows, the Jessamine County Detention Center works to offer rehabilitative programs and a safe environment for offenders of Jessamine County.

The jail is meant to hold 136 inmates, but it is not uncommon for them to have as many inmates as 190 or more on any given day. In short, due to high crime and good enforcement, the county needs a larger jail.

Inmates of Jessamine County Detention Center are either waiting for their court process or they are serving a sentence after conviction and serving within Jessamine County, allowing them to remain in their own community where they are able to have contact with family, friends, and their support system.

Along with medical care, counseling, addictions treatments, and healthy meals, the inmates are also provided with opportunities for their outside support system to provide funds for their commissary, and through phone calls, mail, and visits.
