About the Hardin County Detention Center

The Hardin County Detention Center in Kentucky has a total bed capacity of 646 beds, filled with men and women charged with misdemeanor and felony crimes who are awaiting trial. Those convicted and sentenced to less than one year are serving their sentence at the detention center, while those who have been convicted of a felony and have been sentenced to more than one year will be shipped off to a Kentucky State Prison.

The 646 beds also includes the Hardin County non-secure facilities, including the 56-bed SAP, the 160-bed RCC, and the 48-bed Hardin Owsley Ray RCC SAP facility.

The detention center's mission is to protect and serve the citizens of Hardin County in an effective and efficient manner through the wise use and management of all resources. Recently they implemented a program that allows non-violent inmates convicted of misdemeanor crimes to work for credits and earn time off a sentence. According to the Hardin County Detention Center website, inmate visitation is by appointment only from Sunday to Thursday, between 8:30am to 3:30pm.
