Fayette Regional Juvenile Detention Center Information

Housing the juveniles throughout Lexington and the surrounding areas, the Fayette Regional Juvenile Detention Center houses juveniles who are waiting for a detention hearing, watiing for their sentence, or who have been sentenced to serve time in detention. Kentucky uses a regional system that works to keep youth near their communities during their detention and keep them close enough for parents to visit as often as possible, which also works to keep the pressure off of local law enforcement to support the programs on their own. The detention center takes on all transportation from local law enforcement to take them to the facility as well as to any court dates, for any transfers, and any other appointments or needs. Local schools participate in providing classwork for the students, keeping their grades and credits from slipping during detention. Other services include balanced meals and snacks, recreation time and group activities, access to a library, and additional learning chances for developing life and social skills. Any mental health needs or substance abuse issues are addressed with the necessary treatment, and each of the programs is focused on rehabilitating the juvenile so they may build a successful future free of incarceration or detention.
