It is a low, sprawling building that provides several housing units to ensure the safety needs of each resident is met, and permitting inmates to be housed in units with those of a similar background, keeping those involved in the same cases separated, and allow male and female inmates to have their own housing units.
The 323 bed Bullitt County Detention Center, which includes the 64-bed JRC, provides not only general population housing but also weekenders, who serve their sentences only on the weekends and return home during the week, and work release that allows qualified low security inmates to work offsite or on during their incarceration.
Medical services are provided around the clock every day of the year, and all inmates will be assessed medically upon their arrival to ensure they are healthy and cared for.
Healthy meals are provided each day, along with laundry and recreation. Snacks, hygiene items, and some recreation items can be purchased through the commissary.
Several programs are offered and inmates who qualify are able to access each of the programs that will be useful to them, this includes GED and adult education, substance abuse programs, career readiness, AA/NA, parenting, gardening, healthy eating, religious programming, finances, employment searches and even some employment opportunities that begin upon release.
