These students are aged 10 to 17 and have been arrested on suspicion of a delinquent act, are being held for their detention hearing that will determine if they are to be held until trial or released with a promise to return for their court date, or if they are under an arrest warrant from another county. Those who are on probation and break the rules of their release can be held until they are seen by a judge and a determination is made on a sentence. Each person who is admitted will have an assessment and orientation that provides guidance for what is expected of them each day, what the daily schedule and routine is, and where they will be housed. Attendance at the onsite school is mandatory and there is a library present to complete their homework as well as to access books for recreation, and physical education and exercise is also scheduled. Mental health care is provided throughout their stay and medical care is provided as needed. The focus is on developing responsibility and gaining skills to use throughout life.
