Saline County Juvenile Detention Center Information

The Saline County Juvenile Detention Center has a total capacity of 10 juveniles, male or female. It was closed in 2013 with a hopeful reopening date in 2014. As it continued to reach capacity it was determined that 3 of the staff members would stay to complete the intake while other staff would be tranferred to nearby location in other juvenile detention centers with the remaining residents or be placed in other positions within the county until they could return to regular operation. While at the location there are meals served, schoolwork continues as it is in the local schools, recreation and exercie time are both provided, along with any medical and mental health care. Transprotaion is provided either to the courts, doctors appointments, or as transfers to other facilities. Phone calls, mail, and visits are all provided for those who are on the approved contact list, with visitors and phone calls being limited to immediate family including parents, guardians, and any child of the juvenile. Books and magazines are permitted at the location for juveniles to access during their free time or recreational time. Each resident must stay on the provided scheduel for the smooth operation of the facility. Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Saline County Juvenile Detention Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Saline County Juvenile Detention Center standards will be disposed of.
