Leavenworth County Juvenile Detention Center is a small and local detention facility that has 7 beds for housing juveniles who are between the ages of 10 years old and 17 years old. It provides services not only to the immediate area but can accept youth from anywhere in the state as needed. Each of the juveniles will be provided with the nutritional needs for their meals, along with time for exercise, medical treatments, and any mental health treatment that they require. The approach is to rehabilitate the youth and provide them with tools they need to build successful lives after they have finished their sentence. Life skills, social skills, discipline, and responsibility are all focused on throughout their time at the facility, and issues such as substance abuse, anger management, and others will be addressed to provide them with the best chance of success. Schooling is provided to match the local schools and provided by licensed teachers. GED programs may be accessed if it is determined to be the right match, and the GED test can be taken during their detention. Family is permitted to receive phone calls and to visit on the visiting schedule provided for that youth.
