The 24-bed La Porte County Dorothy S. Crowley Juvenile Services Center is also called the JSC and provides several programs to the juvenile courts in the county for youth ages 8-18. It serves both troubled and at risk youth, and is not limited only to juvenile offenders or to punishments. It protects each of the youth housed inside the walls, and keeps them safe from incarcerated adults by providing a safe and secure environment of their own, safe from themselves or from dangers for those who are at risk, and provides programming to improve their knowledge and skills.
Within the facility are two separate functions, the juvenile detention or secured unit and the residential care that is in place for those who have not been charged or are not being detained by the courts.
A behavioral program is in place to reward positive changes and behavior, individual educational plans to ensure their education goals are met, and care plans that include nutrition education, physical education, vocational education, creative arts, conflict resolution, law education, counseling and medical and dental care.
