Johnson County Juvenile (coed) - Johnson County The Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center houses both male and female juveniles and has a capacity of up to 48 beds. 40 spaces are designated for the male youth and 8 for the female youth. With an average stay of just under 12 days, it is a temporary housing facility that does not house residents long term. It was opened in 1992 and has been in operation continually since, and is located with the Juvenile Court, Juvenile Probation Officers, Juvenile Court, and the Juvenile Community Corrections Program that attempts to divert youth through alternatives to incarceration. Each of the housing units has a dayroom, showers, and other facilities that are needed, as well as these, the location has a full size gym, individual cells, and recreational space. Full time kitchen staff provide healthy meals every day, and medical care is provided by the medical staff, including mental health care. Full time teachers are present to teach grades 1 through 12 to ensure that all of the students are receiving their needed education to return to their home school.
