It is the main jail in Jay County, Indiana, and hosts minimum-security inmates. The facility was originally constructed in 1984 and underwent renovations and additions to relieve overcrowding.
The Jay County Jail is responsible for the housing and care of those who are accused or convicted of committing a misdemeanor or felony in Jay County as they wait for their trial or as they serve their sentence, usually less than one year.
