The Delaware County Juvenile Detention Center is located in Muncie, Indiana, and is operated by the Youth Opportunity Center. It houses youth, both male and female, who are under the jurisdiction of the probation department due to delinquent acts or court order. With a strict and rigid routine and schedule each day, the male and female detainees do not interact with each other, but remain separated by gender for their stay. There are 44 day rooms, 2 isolation cells, GED preparation supplies and classes, and several staff and areas to care for the youth. Other services include full medical services to care for all medical needs of each youth, clinical staff to support mental health and other needs, licensed teachers to maintain their education through the classrooms onsite, psychiatric consultations whenever deemed necessary, counseling for those who have been sentenced, and housing for those who have not yet been sentenced. The strict schedule provides structure and sets high expectations for the behavior of each of the youth and assists in teaching them to do their best and to create their own expectations for their behavior. Students in the facility are as young as 12 years old and as old as 18 years old.
