Bartholomew County Youth Center (coed) Information

The 55 bed facility of Bartholomew County Youth Center houses both male and female juvenile offenders while they wait for their court dates or while they are serving their sentence. As a combined facility, these are separated into separate needs, with 18 beds for detention, 10 beds for shelter use, and a day program. Those who are in detention are held for the safety of the community or on commitment from the court, while those who are housed in the shelter section are juveniles needing a safe space for those who have been abused, neglected, or need short term placement. Each is designed to meet the specific needs of the youth who are in their care, and they are provided with all necessary services. Day treatment offers supports for those who may be deterred from detention and provides an intervention to behaviors or decisions that will result in further charges and detention if they are not adapted. House arrest is also operated through the facility, allowing youth who are lower risk or nonviolent to serve their sentences at home with a GPS tracker and strict set of rules.
