Situated in Joliet, Illinois, the River Valley Juvenile Detention Center is in a shared location with the remainder of the River Valley Justice Center. It houses up to 102 juvenile offenders, while keeping them separate from the adult population and providing them with all their needs and care. There are three reasons that youth will be admitted to the facility, including being considered a danger to themselves or the community, it is anticipated they will leave the jurisdiction rather than appear at their court dates, or they have been arrested via an active warrant. It supports several surrounding counties by housing their juveniles and ensures that they receive the same care regardless of which county they are from. Both male and female youth are housed at the location and are kept separated throughout their detention. A full library is present, along with computer labs, several housing units, a library, recreational space, physical education areas, and more. Visitation is encouraged and youth are able to call those who are approved on their contact list. Parents are encouraged to remain active in the programs for their child and to create a support system for after their release. Mail: 3200 W.
