St. Clair County Juvenile Detention Center Information

Within St Clair County the probation office works to deter youth from requiring detention through other programs including home supervision, social services interventions, rehabilitation efforts, and more. With detention being the last resort, it is treated as a serious step in the life of any juvenile. During their detention, which is most often for those who have been arrested and detained for the safety of the community, or are waiting for their sentencing to occur, they will continue to receive programs and services that will assist in better choices, building skills, and learning new ways to do things. The building has space for 53 beds and accepts both male and female juveniles. Split into 8 housing units, they surround the center area that has a control room, gym, classrooms, recreational space, outdoor areas, and multipurpose rooms. Two licensed teachers are on staff and will continue classes even throughout the summer to allow students to catch up or remain up to date with the curriculum. All medical and mental health care is provided, and youth are offered many opportunities to practice social skills and to interact with other students as well as staff.
