The detention services in Sangamon County are intended to maintain custody of minors while they are waiting for their court date or for a court decision. To meet the goals of the facility and the program, there are full, healthy meals provided, teachers attend to provide ongoing education year round, and behavioral programming is in place to provide guidance to appropriate and positive behaviors. Clothing and bedding are provided along with laundry services to ensure they are cleaned regularly. Along with regular education there is physical education, life skills, and social skills, as well counseling or treatment for addictions or other concerns. All programs and services are provided year round, and the facility is staffed around the clock. While the staff are there for security reasons and to care for the juveniles, they also work with them to practice social skills, create a positive environment for growth and development, support their efforts, and encourage them to try new things. Transportation is provided to and from court appointments and any necessary medical appointments. Medical care is provided onsite.
