About the Boone County Correctional Facility

Housing up to 150 offenders, the Boone County Correctional Facility offers a safe and secure detention center for all of the locally arrested offenders of both felony and misdemeanor charges.

Inmates of Boone County will remain at the Boone County Correctional Facility both for their pretrial period and if they are sentenced to a short period of confinement. The most recent expansion was completed in 2023, and it was at this time that the capacity increased from 48 to 150, allowing it to better meet the needs of the community and to improve the security features and other areas.

Staff are available around the clock to check the status of an inmate at 815-544-9322 or they can be looked up online.

Using direct supervision to ensure that all inmates have their needs met and are safe within, there is an officer who is assigned to each of the housing units to monitor the area and they are able to interact with inmates directly throughout their shift. Most often officers enter in pairs, and they are also monitored via video and communicate with other staff via radio. Having officers directly within the housing unit allows for fast response times and de-escalation as needed.

Positive behavior is rewarded with games, television, and added time in the dayroom or other rewards, and officers interact in positive ways to present a positive role model for everyone in the unit. For those who are unable to engage well or who are showing problematic behavior, they may have short periods of lock down in their cell, miss activities, or even be moved to a more restrictive or higher security housing unit.

With the upgrades the facility also gained the ability to do the arraignment by video, ensuring all inmates appear at their arraignment on time and without needing to be moved from the building to do so.

Mail is delivered to the building every weekday from the Postal Service, and inmates are able to both send and receive mail as often as they like. Mail will be opened by staff and checked for contraband, only letter mail and postcards are permitted with no oversized envelopes, cards, or other items placed within the envelope.

Phones are available during daytime hours for outgoing calls only, and you may receive calls through an account online or by accepting collect calls.

Visits are now done through video services and it is necessary to register for an account for either onsite or remote visits. Each detainee is permitted to have two visits each week for 15 minutes each visit, and it is permissible to have both visits on the same day.

Remote visits are available throughout the day every day, and the exact times will be made visible after creating and account and logging in to select the inmate you wish to visit.

Onsite visits are scheduled for Wednesday 7:00pm-9:30pm, and Sunday 9:00am-1:00pm for 15 minutes each visit.
