About the Jerome County Correctional Facility

The expansive building that houses the Jerome County Sheriff’s Office and the 165-bed Jerome County Correctional Facility has a large, fenced recreation yard, large parking lots for both staff and visitors, and ample space inside for housing units, recreation space, medical spaces, kitchen, and other areas.

Both those facing misdemeanor and those with felony charges in Jerome County will be housed here as they wait for their trial and if they are sentenced to the jail by the court. Basic needs and rehabilitation efforts are provided, and programs are intended to provide inmates with skills and abilities that will assist in their rehabilitation into their community after their release.

Upon intake, the booking process is completed, which includes a medical screening, fingerprinting and mugshots, DNA sample, along with an assessment to determine security needs, medical needs, mental health requirements, and housing assignment.

Staff is available to transport all inmates to court dates and any medical appointments or emergency needs, as well as inspecting all mail for contraband, receiving commissary funds and other money for inmates, maintaining the safety of the community and the security of the facility, and other tasks.

To assist in reducing recidivism and supporting mental health of all inmates and thus increasing the safety of the building, inmates are encouraged to remain in contact with their friends and family who are not incarcerated throughout their experience. This is done through mail, sent by the postal service, outgoing phone calls from the inmates, and visits.

All mail is opened upon arrival, with delivery occurring each weekday, and any contraband or restricted items will be removed.
