Offenders may both wait for their trial and serve their sentence at this location, accessing the benefits of serving in their own community helping to reduce recidivism and enforce stronger ties with the community and their families.
If you are concerned that someone you know may be incarcerated the online roster is available around the clock from anywhere and any further concerns or questions may be directed to the jail by calling 208-365-4484.
During any length of incarceration medical care, mental health care, and other supports and services are provided, along with healthy meals, exercise opportunities, and both social and recreational activities. Work release programs are in place, allowing those who are sentenced to it, to continue working their regular full time job, but were paused temporarily. SILD programs also provide the opportunity for offenders on lessor charges to serve their sentence through working for the county and the Gem County Jail itself during the weekends rather than being incarcerated full time.
Families and friends of inmates are encouraged to remain in contact when possible to support the mental health of the inmate, which has been shown to increase the safety of the jail and reduce recidivism rates. To accommodate this, inmates are able to both send and receive mail through the US Postal Service, make phone calls daily, and have visits.
Mail is addressed to the jail itself with the name of the inmate, where it will then be checked for contraband and then they will be given to the inmate. The remainder of the envelope must be plain and undecorated, with only the address and return address. Any paperback books of appropriate content may be mailed to the jail directly from the publisher or the retailer only.

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.
Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Gem County Jail uses Jail ATM to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.
Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Gem County Jail first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
